Blog Enhancements II

It is my goal to make this blog more enjoyable and usable for my readers.? To that end, today I added some code that adds recent comments to the sidebar, and allows users to subscribe to comments on a post if they like.

Future enhancements that are likely coming:

  1. More books and more commentary on my books page, plus links to Amazon (whether I make money off it or not).
  2. Update of the major articles list.
  3. Addition of a polls feature.
  4. And internal enhancements that will enable me to better monitor my site.? Please note, I will never sell the e-mail addresses of those who register on my site.? I live by the words of Jesus Christ, who said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”? People hate having their e-mail addresses sold; I hate it when it happens to me.? I won’t do it to my readers.
  5. Some way of tracking my portfolios, apart from what I am doing now at Stockpickr.com, so that I can comment on my performance as needed.

Now, if there are other features you might like to see, let me know, and I will do my best to see if I can provide them.

  1. First — let me emphasize how much you have done — and so quickly. There is a wealth of information for anyone visiting your site.

My suggestion — and it applies to all of us trying to write about investments – is where to start. I am working on this problem for my site.

Meanwhile, my suggestion is the following:

Do some sort of periodic (every couple of weeks?) update of best “new money buys.” For example, if I think I should have some insurance sector exposure, how should I get started? You might need to give a couple of choices to reflect risk tolerance, etc.

Just a thought — something to help readers to get the most from your excellent analysis.

    Jeff

  2. Jeff, What you write makes a lot of sense, and I think that doing a mid-month new money post would be a real benefit to readers. Why mid-month? Too much money gets allocated to the market near the first of the month; better to avoid the competition.

PS — My boss sometimes asks for my best new money ideas, whether in insurance, or outside of that. It is an excellent discipline for a portfolio manager or analyst to be able to answer that question clearly.

  3. I like your “new money buys” idea Jeff…I know that I’m struggling to find some right now — I’ve sold a few things and all of my buy ideas seem a bit pricey right now

David: congrats on your site — I don’t often post but I read it most every day…and it would be cool if you opt for the health insurer CIO gig that you mentioned a week or so ago
