It’s not a good idea to “worship” at the idol of anyone because it makes it tough to rationally assess and see flaws that are there. Rogers hasn’t been right all the time in his history and he’s famously bearish on the US. And he’s been bearish on emerging markets overall this year, and they’ve been the best place to be invested this year so far. Also, in 2007, stocks did fine overall and Fisher did better as far as I can see. So it was right for Fisher to be bullish that year. He was bullish through 2008, but he’s been bullish all this year which was definitely spot on. And, apparently, even if you include the 2008 bear market, he’s got the S&P beat by a big spread—if you believe Steve Forbes—by over 5% on average each year since 1997. So, that’s just the other side of the story, which is only fair. “Love” makes us not see the faults in the object of our affection.

Just a comment for James Dailey with the best intentions. I had never been a fan of Fisher's and "worship" at the Rogers idol, but that interview cemented my distaste for Mr. Fisher. He was arrogant and dismissed Rogers' arguments as if he were debating a 20 year old undergrad rather than one of the most successful investors of the past 50 years. Following the debate, Fisher's public mutual fund (PURIX) went on to lose over 50% of its value. The fund hasn't made its investors a dime in real terms in over 10 years now. I hope he has been humbled.

I vividly remember a debate on Bloomberg in late summer 2007 between Jim Rogers and Ken Fisher.
