With pay scales and insurance staying the same or better.We are all ready in a crunch with the downward turn of the building market, and anymore out of pocket expenses will only hurt the ready-mix drivers in the wallet alreay strapped..
Supposedly in areas of heavy overlap, Cemex will have to divest operations. Can’t speak to your specific situation, though. I hope it works out for you.
Where do you suppose the Chinese get their cement for all the building they are doing? I hope Rinker (Cemex) has a hand in it.
I’m not an industry expert, so take this with a grain of salt. I don’t expect that Cemex has a lot of China business, even after the Rinker merger. They didn’t have much in China previously. Rinker was mainly a US cement producer, with some ops in Australia and China. Maybe Cemex can grow those ops effectively. We’ll see.
The one thing that caught my attention with Cemex some time ago was the statement made by the CEO in an interview – I don’t necessarily want to be CEO of the largest cement company in the world, but the CEO of the best cement company in the world>”.
I think that says a hell of a lot about the company. I have owned the stock ever since. It has done well – not a big mover – but well.
Hey, you said it. I have owned Cemex longer than any other name in my portfolio. I have no intention of selling it anytime soon, merely trimming it as it moves up.
Since their derivatives messes earlier this decade, they have certainly run the company well. Just a detail, but they use scrap “pet coke” to fire up many of their cement kilns.

redymixdriver 28 years in florida rinker florida grown company lets hope as the florida plants are divested the drivers are teated fairly and no jobs are lost this is a difficult time in the industry in florida it will turn around but any jobs lost now will make hard to find employment with the cost of living in florida as it is in florida the payscale will never catch uo with the cost of housing .home insurance health insurance etc.
Here is the real question that Rinker employees should be asking themselves, especially in the areas that will be hardest hit from the divesture of sites. What is going to happen to the employees in the SW Fl. area where all of the Rinker sites must go when the deal goes through but there are no buyers for these plants? In my opinion since the Feds have said that Cemex cannot operate these sites, then guess what people we are out of a job, point blank, end of story. That is of course the worst case scenario. But none the less it is a real possibility.
At this point, Cemex controls Rinker; they own over 50% of the shares. Odds are they’ll buy in the rest over time.
Cement plants are valuable; even if Cemex sells a few off to settle antitrust regulation, another cement producer (like Vulcan Materials) would pick up the plants. I doubt that that much would change in terms of hiring practices in the short run. The longer run is another matter, but it’s hard to change cement technology that much.

since cemex takeover moral is bad people losing homes cant pay health ins droping out of 401k all they care is about the bottom line cutting costs to where making a living in florida is impossible i understand about cutting costs but not to the point of cutting hours to 20 hours per week sure it can be done but is that good management ? NO peoples lives are getting ruined this can only happen in florida right to work state with rinker 15 years im senior driver at my plant lost seniorty since cemex came in moral is worst i ever seen there are a lot of ways to turn a profit but at the employees expense?is that good management very nearsighted they will lose drivers at the way there being treatd there accident records will go up unhappy drivers are dangerous drivers tey need to stop this yuppy mentality have a understanding of work ethic pride in your jobs if they keep treating drivers like this i wont be here long or will the other drivers i hope things will get better but i doubt it its the way they think they can run a bussiness making a profit at the drivers expense
the greedy flippers and realtors overinflated the market overbuilding spec housing thers that yuppy mentality again ruining the country outsourceing jobs for short term profits lets keep the jobs in america build the products here let the american workers buy there own products I remember when made in america meant quality lets bring it back lets insource and have the other countrys buy our products the idea was for foreigners to buildcompanys in this country to create jobs not for us to move our companys to mexico and china whos gonna buy these products if the jobs are going out of the country again short term thinking for short term profits nothing to build on to make this country stronger lets put are sons and daughters back to work organize labor , again lets bring pride back to the blue color workers and create a standard of living past generation had hith health care afforable healthcare back to all workers but let everybody pay there own share lets enforce the illegals out of the country dont tell me there taking jobs american workers dont want thats bull 9 out of 10 construction workers in southwest florida from the slab to the roof are illegal nothings done about it these are good jobs no health insurance no 401k they pay no taxes everybodys happy yea right!! there bringing back labor 100 years !maybe i am wrong maybe i see things differently lets wake up!!!!
